UNDEREXPOSED to screen at its first film festival!

If you’ve been wondering where you can view Underexposed: A Women’s Skateboarding Documentary, I finally have an answer for you!

We have been accepted into the Thin Line Film Festival and will be screening the finished (color corrected, audio mastered, new ending) version of the film February 14th at 9:00PM in Denton, Texas!

“The biggest news for female athletes, aside from the cross-sport video-segment competition called Real Women, which will debut in 2013, is the addition of Skateboard Park in Barcelona,” (X Games adds new disciplines).

This news has left me so speechless that the only way I know how to respond to it is by sharing the response of fellow skateaholic Nora Vasconcellos:

Also, Congrats to Leticia Bufoni and Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Pastrana for getting the opportunity to work on some video parts! I’d like to see some Mega McTwists and rail assassination… But I’m slightly confused as to how they are going to be judged against the other “real women” of ski and surf, and how they are going to “announce winners May 16-19″ based on voting that doesn’t start until May 30. Hmm. But maybe I just misunderstood the article.

If you’re wondering about the status of the documentary, we heard it was a bit underexposed so we went to get it color-corrected Technicolor.

EXPOSURE 2012 Recap Part 1

EXPOSURE 2012 went better than I could have ever imagined!!!! Despite all of the warnings about the stress and madness that comes with event planning and the concerns about whether there was enough time to put it all together, I couldn’t believe how smoothly it all went down. The level of help, hype and skating really blew me away. It was an honor to have such a hard-working team of volunteers. Thank you all so much!!!

The biggest thank you of all goes to the event co-chair, Armando De La Libertad, for being the catalyst for the event in the first place. Not only would the event not have happened without him, but I would have drowned in paperwork/minute details/organizational mishaps if it were not for his help!

There was really a great energy in the air throughout the event. It seemed like everyone was excited, smiling, and skating amazingly. I am so proud of all of the skaters for throwing down! It was very inspiring to see how well the AMs were skating too. They are on-par with where the Pro level was when I started competing. I was definitely struggling to keep up with my own division.

We had a phenomenal set of judges including: Mike McGill, Steve Caballero, Jean Rusen, Dave Hackett and Aaron Astorga with Jim Gray keeping score.

I loved watching Alana Smith giggle and smile between 540 tries, laughing off each slam until she made it. I’m so proud of her!

We were fortunate enough to have the talent of Underexposed’s producer, Brian Lynch, behind the lens and in the editing room. Check out part 1 of the recap here:

I still can’t believe how well it all went. I am excited to work towards creating more ways to fuel the progression of women’s skateboarding. Judging by the level of help, support, and excitement, I’m am definitely not alone!

Before you think “ew, organized skateboarding,” check out a new part of their program.
The So. Cal Skate Trip takes Gould and non-Gould students from all over the country to skate some of Southern California’s best skate spots.
From private parks to historic street spots, we tried to hit them all last summer.

With a school like that, you can see why I’m excited to travel to Maine to re-visit the campus next weekend.

EXPOSURE 2012: a women’s benefit event

Come on out to Clairemont Nov. 3rd! Whether you’re skating, want to learn, or just want to watch, come support women’s skateboarding as well as the non-profit Human Options. We’re raising scholarship funds for victims of domestic violence.

The event will feature learn-to-skate clinics from 9-11AM and then we will kick off the string of contests: AM bowl, PRO bowl, AM vert, PRO vert and wrap up with a “first to 540 jam.” Will you be the next female to land a 540? Mike McGill will be there to judge…
